What is Gum Disease?
Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support the teeth. It is a major cause of tooth loss in adults. Since gum disease is usually painless, you may not know that it has started.

Gingivitis : early stage of gum disease is called gingivitis. At this stage, the disease is still reversible and can usually be eliminated by following good oral hygiene at home.

Early Periodontitis : Once the gum disease spreads, it is called periodontitis. Gums separate from the teeth, forming periodontal pockets (spaces between the teeth and gums) which become infected.

Advanced Periodontitis : In advanced stages, it can lead to loss of bone around the teeth, leading to tooth mobility and eventually loss of tooth.

Polishing and Flossing of teeth
Dental floss, floss threaders, inter-dental brushes, waterjets are used to clean the spaces between the teeth. If the contact areas are not cleaned properly, it can lead to cavities.
What is Laser gum treatment?
Laser gum treatment in India is a conservative non-surgical treatment for periodontal disease. After scaling and root planing, the deep pockets are treated using dental lasers. It selectively removes the diseased or infected tissue that lines the pockets around the teeth. At the same time, it also kills the bacteria that cause gum disease and promotes healing of the gums.
What is the correct brushing technique?
Proper brushing takes atleast two minutes - that's right, 120 seconds! Most adults do not come close to brushing that long. To get a feel for the time involved, try using a stopwatch. To properly brush your teeth use short gentle strokes, paying extra attention to the gum line and hard-to-reach back teeth.
How often should I change my toothbrush?
Most dentists recommend soft-to-medium bristled toothbrush for removing plaque and debris from your teeth. You should replace your toothbrush when it begins to show wear, or every three months, whichever comes first.

It is also very important to change toothbrushes after you've had a cold, since the bristles can collect germs which can lead to re-infection.
Will regular cleanings weaken my teeth? Answer is NO.
Teeth cleaning has NO harmful effect on the enamel as some patient's believe. This is because scaling is done with an ultrasonic scaler which operates by vibrations; it has no potency of drilling the teeth at all. Scaling just removes the debris, deposits and stains from the teeth by the motions of vibrations.
